    Degree Completion through BPS Partnerships with Higher Education Institutions: Any BPS employee who is in need of completing their degree and/or earning a Master’s Degree which includes a pathway to licensure can enroll with one of our two higher education partners at an employee discount. They offer an undergraduate degree completion program and a wide variety of graduate degree programming. There are also scholarships available specifically for Black and Latinx educators.   • Secondary Leadership Certificate in Critical & Equitable Literacy: 
    This is a two-course certificate program for school-based educator teams in all content areas that empowers 6th-12th grade educators to lead your school communities in developing and implementing deeply equitable approaches to literacy across contents and settings in your school. You and a team of educators in your school will join one another in collaborative learning through two Boston University courses.   • Transformative Leaders of Massachusetts Fellowship Opportunity
    Middle and high school educators interested in exploring school leadership should apply to the Transformative Leaders of Massachusetts fellowship! Fellows receive two years of training in school design and leadership, leveraging an apprenticeship model with hands-on learning, mentorship, licensure support, and a stipend of $20,000 while staying in their current positions.   • Elementary ESL Planning Cohort: Begins Feb 29, 12-3 PM
    This Planning Cohort will address the question, “How do we thoughtfully implement the OMME ESL curriculum to provide our English language learners access to grade level texts?” Led by experienced BPS Educators, a Planning Cohort is a space for educators to collaboratively plan with the support of a teacher expert. During the Planning Cohort you will have time to unpack curriculum, plan content units, and reflect on implementation, with the support of a teacher facilitator. This cohort will focus on planning using OMME’s new ESL units aligned to EL. Earn 1 ALC for work you are already doing!

  • The Middle School Experience PLC: February 6th, February 13th, February 27th:
    In this workshop, teachers and classroom supports will have an opportunity to experience a simulated school day in middle school classrooms that are embedded in culturally responsive practices in order to reflect on what planned adaptive shifts in practice will result in an increased use of enabling text , development of assessment(s) which promote a culture of learning, and increased student- to- student discourse using district supported HQIM. Educators will have an opportunity to deepen their practices in two subsequent virtual sessions that will focus on creating opportunities for authentic assessment and planning for discourse. Objective:  Participants will complete the following readings as pre-work for each session: Session 1 [all middle grade educators] (Enabling Experiences) Think Like a Child: What We Lose with Age (and How to Get It Back) “Labels or Limitations? Recommendations for Asset-Based Language for Multilingual Learners” Session 2 [all middle grade educators] (Authentic Assessment) Building Thinking Classrooms : 14 Practices Chapter 1 from, “This Is Disciplinary Literacy: Reading, Writing, Thinking, and Doing …Content Area By Content Areas”. Session 3 [all middle grade educators] (Planning for Discourse) Chapter 4 & 5 from, “This Is Disciplinary Literacy: Reading, Writing, Thinking, and Doing …Content Area By Content Areas”.  Participants will be required to adapt one lesson using the lesson internalization protocol for the design or redesign of a lesson in an upcoming unit. The final deliverable will be the sharing of a lesson internalization protocol that includes an artifact tied to the implementation of an enabling text, student-to-student discourse and/or and authentic assessment strategies. To eligible to earn 15 PDP’s and receive $500 stipend participants must be A BPS Educator (Classroom Teachers & Instructional Para-Professionals)
