Degree Completion through BPS Partnerships with Higher Education Institutions: Any BPS employee who is in need of completing their degree and/or earning a Master’s Degree which includes a pathway to licensure can enroll with one of our two higher education partners at an employee discount. They offer an undergraduate degree completion program and a wide variety of graduate degree programming. There are also scholarships available specifically for Black and Latinx educators. - Critically Disciplinary Literacy Course: Weekly from May 7-June 11
This course is designed for secondary content teacher participants will understand critical disciplinary literacy as an approach to teaching disciplinary content, evaluate current instructional practices, and incorporate a critical disciplinary approach to curriculum development and instructional design. Across 6 modules, Completion of this 12-hour course along with a competency deliverable will result in 1 ALC for participants. This learning site brings educators together to address the question, “How do we implement the OMME ESL curriculum to support multilingual learners in accessing Tier 1 content?” The site will demonstrate two teachers’ collaborative approach to answering this question while thinking through differentiation to support student needs. After the observation, educators will debrief with the host teacher with potential follow up sessions for an ALC/PDPs.

As a next step in our Inclusion rollout, classroom teachers who provide instruction to students and school-based instructional coaches will participate in a twelve hour course as part of existing contractual professional development hours. BPS is seeking diverse teachers from all content areas, grade levels, and school types to provide feedback on the courses as they are being designed. The commitment is for up to six hours between now and the end of the summer paid at the contractual hourly rate. Required dates: May 22nd, and June 11th from 3:30-5pm on zoom. The remaining 3 hours will be scheduled by participants as they review materials.
