In this course, participants will learn introductory Spanish in order to better communicate with BPS students/families. This course may be most relevant to those who have no or limited Spanish proficiency. There will be an asynchronous class followed by 2 sessions (choose one) for oral practice at 12:12-50 PM OR 3 – 3:50 PM. every Tuesday for 14 weeks beginning September 12, 2023. - NAEP 2024 Job Opportunity
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), often called The Nation’s Report Card, is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students in public and private schools in the United States know and are able to do in various subjects. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, NAEP has been conducted since 1969 and is often considered the “gold standard” in large-scale assessments. NAEP needs staff to conduct the assessments at grades 4, 8, and 12 for the NAEP 2024 program. In-school data collectors must be available to work during school hours, when work is available, between January 29 and March 8, 2024. To be eligible for a professional teaching license, the Massachusetts Department of Education requires an additional 50 hours of mentoring beyond the first-year induction program. In this course, you will receive that required mentoring from veteran BPS Educators as you reflect on and grow your teaching practice. - Secondary Open Up Math Unit Virtual Previews
Virtual unit unpacking sessions for Open Up Secondary Math curriculum will be provided to all BPS educators for each unit in Math 1, 2 & 3 (with corresponding Algebra – Geometry – Algebra 2 sequence units), starting Monday, September 11th from 4:00pm – 6:00pm. During each unit preview session teachers will have the opportunity to work with an Open Up Math facilitator to unpack the unit to see how the learning cycles fit together and how the unit flows, take a deep dive of at least one lesson to plan and consider intended pedagogy, spend time unit/lesson planning and be given time for a Q & A about the unit and/or other concerns related to use of the materials. - Apply to be a Wellness Champion The Wellness Champion Program is a leadership opportunity for school staff who aim to bring the District Wellness Policy to life through wellness initiatives. Wellness Champions deepen their wellness policy knowledge and build their capacity to implement activities through: Professional Development in their chosen domain; one-on-one technical assistance; the opportunity to build a peer network of support; and implementation resources. - Secondary ESL Planning Cohort: Grades 6-12 This Planning Cohort will address the question, “How do we thoughtfully implement ESL curriculum to provide all students access to rich language development tasks and learning experiences?” A Planning Cohort is a space for educators to collaboratively plan with the support of teacher experts. During the Planning Cohort you will have time to unpack your ESL curriculum to develop a thoughtful unit plan, pool resources with other teachers in a similar context, and receive feedback from peers and coaches. Degree Completion through BPS Partnerships with Higher Education Institutions: Any BPS employee who is in need of completing their degree and/or earning a Master’s Degree which includes a pathway to licensure can enroll with one of our two higher education partners at an employee discount. They offer an undergraduate degree completion program and a wide variety of graduate degree programming. There are also scholarships available specifically for Black and Latinx educators. - Collaborative Problem Learning Site (K-12)
Collaborating Problem Solving Learning Site: If you or an educator you know is working toward improving student collaboration and understanding in math group work, this is an opportunity to join other educators for a day in a live classroom around a common area of practice. This learning site on 11/7/23 places the question of ““How do we support students engaged in group work to persevere together in solving rich, grade-level math tasks?” Come see a 6th grade inclusion classroom, led by Jara Richards at the Eliot Upper School, where students are engaged in the “Building Thinking Classrooms” math routine. After the observation educators have a chance to think through and debrief with the host teacher around the hows and whys of their teaching practice with follow up coaching sessions for an ALC/PDPs. The Pathway Programs are intensive, accelerated, and affordable professional development courses that prepare participants for educator licenses issued by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and for professional teaching practice. The programs are designed to equip participants with the foundational knowledge, instructional skills, and dispositions necessary for effective teaching.
The Pathway offers preparation for the two Special Education licenses – Moderate Disabilities and Severe Disabilities – and English as a Second Language, all of which are programmatic areas of high staffing needs in the Boston Public Schools. The programs enroll participants from a wide variety of backgrounds, including career changers, recent college graduates, paraprofessionals, and substitute teachers, as well as current teachers. - Paid Inclusion and Anti-Racism Consultant for MFA Learning Programs
Join a small team of K-12 educators who serve as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s Art Finders Consultants. Support the centering of students and the use of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access frameworks by (1) advising on the creation of MFA Art Finders online resources and (2) facilitating on-going trainings connected to inclusion, anti-racism, and anti-bias for volunteer tour guides of school and college groups. 3-5 hours/week; $60 – $100/hour. Applicants are welcome from all grade levels and disciplines. As we amplify our efforts toward becoming a truly inclusive institution, ensuring that diversity, equity, and access are lived values, the MFA actively encourages educators from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in museums to apply.
