On June 24, Boston City Council passed the City’s FY 2021 budget. BTU President Jessica Tang released the following statement:

We thank the Mayor for maintaining the integrity of the Boston Public Schools budget in these challenging times and amidst the State’s decades-long underfunding of our schools. This budget is a positive step, during a fiscal recession, that will foster our student’s learning and help us create the schools they deserve. We are especially encouraged by the investments in youth jobs and in additional social workers through the Health and Human Services department to address trauma in the city. We recognize these investments as the first step in a broader conversation around funding both our communities and schools. We continue to call for safety in our communities through police budget reforms and policy changes that go beyond the budget as well as full investments from our state and federal governments through the Student Opportunity Act and HEROES Act.
