Education funding is shaping up to be a top priority for the Massachusetts Legislature as lawmakers return to Beacon Hill this month.
The House and Senate last year both agreed that the state’s education funding formula, which determines how money is distributed to Massachusetts’ public schools, is underfunding schools and needs to be updated. But the two bodies were unable to agree on how to do it, with talks falling apart in the final hours of the legislative session.
Gov. Charlie Baker largely remained silent on the issue last year, leaving the details to lawmakers to iron out.
