City councilors and members of the public demanded “clarity” from school officials on a 10-year, $1 billion facilities plan that many say remains shrouded in mystery despite more than 100 public meetings.
“Two years later and we are still looking for a clearer idea as to what this is,” said Councilor-At-Large Annissa Essaibi George, who called Monday’s hearing as chairwoman of the education committee.
“I would like a more concrete timeline because there is a huge lack of information for parents and students about how are we going to be touched by this,” Essaibi George said. “… It’s frustrating to hear that we talking about making a timeline to have conversations but not for what we are doing with our kids.”
The BuildBPS plan sparked outcry in October with the announcement of the planned closures of two schools, West Roxbury Academy and Urban Science Academy, at the end of this school year.
