Please take a look at a new report, “Rethinking School Accountability: Opportunities for Massachusetts Under the Every Student Succeeds Act,” produced by Senator Pat Jehlen’s office with input from AFTMA and the MTA (and many others). In the report, you’ll find useful information relating to the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the Achievement Gap Act, accountability, education “reform,” school funding, Turnaround schools, and more. Senator Jehlen presented it to the State Senate last week and submitted it to the Education Committee.

The report is an indictment of test-based accountability, demonstrating that recent trends haven’t closed achievement gaps. And it’s a cry for more funding for high-poverty schools. Educators and community members will find a huge amount of useful information, and this report will help frame future conversations on test-based accountability and funding.
