We hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend as we honored those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We continue to honor our active military members and their families, many of whom are BTU members as well.

Congratulations to all of the BPS valedictorians who were honored at the annual luncheon this week! Their stories and achievements represent the best of Boston and our schools, and we’re honored to be a part of their journey.

As we head into June, we await the Supreme Court decision on the Janus case. The AFT sent a summary of the implications of this case. For a helpful read on how the plaintiff himself actually benefits from a union, please check out this article.

We know that unions play a critical role in ensuring that workers have a voice, fair working conditions and access to quality health care. As union members, we also fight for values including equity, inclusion and social justice. BTU members are proud to build power for our students, schools, and profession, and this is evidenced in the great success of our year-long BTU All In campaign: We are pleased to share that to date, over 99% of our 10,000 members have signed cards on file! Check here to make sure you have an up to date card on file, too: members.btu.org.

Logo for 2018 BTU Summer Organizing InstituteWhile we are well-positioned to weather the storm and repel the continued attacks on teachers, our unions, and the public sector, it has never been more important to stay engaged, informed, and involved. As the we head into the last month of the school year, we invite BTU leaders and aspiring leaders to join us at this year’s Summer Organizing Institute. BTU Building Rep elections should also have been completed. Please remember to report your results by filling out the online form.

We will keep you all posted about the impending decision, but regardless of the outcome, we will continue to collectively work in union to create the schools and communities our students and families-and we-deserve.

Have a wonderful week!
