Dear member,
Happy New Year! This year, we will continue fighting for working people and building a strong public education justice movement!
We hope you’ll join us tomorrow for our Membership Meeting beginning at 4:30 PM! During the meeting, we will likely be voting on the COPE and EBoard recommended candidate for an endorsement in the Massachusetts Democratic Primary for the 2020 Presidential election. More information about the candidates can be found on our website and was sent to Building Reps last Friday. Don’t forget to request childcare if you need it. You can see our full agenda for the meeting tomorrow.
In other news, we begin this year with the reappointment of Lorna Rivera and Alexandra Oliver-Davila to the Boston School Committee. We extend them our heartfelt congratulations for this reappointment and look forward to continued work with them as we strive towards creating the best Boston Public Schools possible.
Mark your calendars for BTU’s 75th-anniversary celebrations on Saturday, October 3, 2020! Plans are full-steam ahead for the event and if you are interested in volunteering on the planning committee, please email Marimar at mmoriwaki@btu.org.
The Boston City Council is voting on our health care agreement this month. As you might recall, we, along with other unions of PEC, reached a tentative agreement with the city in December. Details of the agreement will be publicly available after the vote and we hope to have a thorough presentation at next month’s membership meeting, pending the Council vote.
Finally, the Graduate Students at Harvard have ended their strike but are still waiting on a contract outlining their benefits and pay raises. We stand in support with the GSU-UAW. They deserve a #ContractNow!
We hope you had a joyous and restful vacation! Have a great week and welcome back!
