Last week many thousands of students protested at the state house and city hall seeking more funding for our public schools. The end result is that there will be a reshuffling of resources to restore some of the school budget reductions. Some new programs and initiatives may be delayed pending the receipt of anticipated-but-not-yet-received revenues.
The bottom line is that our schools, despite the slight shift, need far more in the way of resources that can only come from the state, and this budget shift is a little bit of robbing Peter to pay Paul. The state’s Local Aid to cities and towns is down 41% in inflation-adjusted dollars from 1990-1991, and state education aid has been savaged by charter reimbursements. A solution to the systemic problems our schools face lies only in a statehouse solution. You can help by participating on our Keep the Cap on Charters campaign.
The Transfer and Open Posting lists are posted on the BPS website. The transfer list began on March 1 and will end on midnight of March 25. Open postings will remain posted until the vacancies are filled. Please email either Caren or Michael with questions.
There will be a job share meeting at the BTU on Wednesday, March 16, from 4-6 PM at the BTU. Job Sharing enables people to work half time while maintaining full benefits and seniority.
Finally, there has been an uptick in the number of Math Rocks school teams (we now have 40 teams registered!) and we need a few more proctors than we originally anticipated. Interested in helping out, please see below.
