Wishing those who celebrate a happy Eid al-Fitr!

We are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement with the City of Boston that provides a full-time nurse in every school; increases supports for high needs students including inclusion and EL students; increases the number of mental health providers, and provides more equitable pay for BTU members, including our lowest paid paraprofessionals and substitutes. Read our full press release on the agreement and view coverage. BTU members can also sign into the member portal to view a summary and full text of the tentative agreements.

We are so grateful to everyone who worked so hard at rallies, walk-ins, School Committee meetings, teach-ins, and more throughout the school year to keep fighting for this agreement. The BTU calls on all members to join us after our upcoming membership meeting on June 12 at 4:30pm to ratify the contract. The presentation and discussion of the TA will begin after 5:00 to allow late school staff time for travel. Please remember to bring your membership card for speedy entry!

Not all BTU members have secured a fair contract, however. Teachers and staff at City on a Hill Schools continue to demand that the Board of Directors take seriously their demands for an agreement that provides just compensation and creates a positive, stable learning environment for CoaH students. The BTU now turns our full attention to supporting CoaH educators. Sign our petition telling CEO Kevin Taylor and the CoAH board to give teachers a voice.

June marks LGBTQ+ Pride Month! The BTU is proud of all our educators, staff, and students, and offer our support this month and throughout the year. Please sign up to join the BTU and BPS contingent this Saturday and wear your BTU T-shirt!

Finally, it’s BTU ELECTION DAY TOMORROW! If you did not vote by mail in this year’s union election, come to the BTU tomorrow from 8:00am-6:00pm to cast your ballotCandidates for full time staff and Executive Board have submitted statements, which you can view on Page 7 of the Boston Union Teacher April edition.
