- Online TESOL / TEFL Certification
Teach English Abroad – Are you interested in working as an English language teacher around the world? UNI-Prep’s online TESOL & TEFL Certificate program qualifies an individual to work as an English and ESL/EFL teacher internationally. The program is completely online and is 120-hours in length. Since the course is online, it allows you the option to study from anywhere in the world as long as you have a computer with an internet connection. In addition, there is no set schedule that you must follow, so you can study at your own schedule. Once you have registered in the course, you will be given a login and password allowing you access to the course 24/7 from any computer. Most students take 2-4 weeks to complete the full TESOL Certification program, but you can take more or less time than this depending on how often and quickly you will study. Once you have finished the course, you will choose whether to be issued a TESOL or TEFL certificate since our course meets the requirements of both qualifications. - Mentoring for Professional Licensure (MPL)
To be eligible for a professional teaching license, the Massachusetts Department of Education requires an additional 50 hours of mentoring beyond the first-year induction program. In this course, you will receive that required mentoring from veteran BPS Educators as you reflect on and grow your teaching practice. Register for one of the three posted sections (Grades K0-3, Grades 4-8, or Grades 9-12) The first Mentoring for Professional Licensure session will be held virtually on October 20th (4:30-6:30). We wanted to let you know about a fully remote autism-focused Professional Development (PD) program opportunity! The Smooth Sailing PD program is an online program that helps general education teachers learn more about autism, build relationships with their autistic students, and collaborate with their caregivers. The program is currently enrolling for 2021-2022 Fall and Spring cohorts. Teachers who are eligible to participate in this program are: 1) General education teachers, 2) teaching in grades K-2nd, and 3) have a student diagnosed with autism or is suspected of having a diagnosis of autism in their classroom during the 2021-2022 academic year. Approved by MA DESE and funded by the research arm of the federal department of education (the Institute of Education Sciences), Smooth Sailing is a free, virtual, 4-week individualized PD that provides self-paced online learning and coaching. Overall, it involves 12 hours of teacher time and awards 10 Professional Development Points (PDPs) to MA teachers. Teachers who complete the program will also receive $300 for their participation.

The Boston University Consortium invites you to learn more about the Educator Learning Grants program which offers grants of up to $5,000 for projects to be carried out in the 2022-2023 school year. On February 9th from 4:30-6:00, the BU Consortium will hold a virtual event where educators can learn more about applying for one of these grants and collaborate with BU faculty. Grant applications are open to all educators- teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, related service providers, and more. See this link for more information and to register for the event. -
PSi is accepting applications now!By developing professionals from the perspectives of Educator, Artist, and Community Leader, the Perrone-Sizer Institute for Creative Leadership (PSi) builds skills, capacity, and confidence to lead innovative, equitable, democratic schools and organizations that prioritize student agency and community partnership. PSi participants can opt to receive intensive coaching to complete the Massachusetts Performance Assessment for Leaders for Principal Licensure, and may also enroll in Cambridge College’s PSi certificate program for graduate credit. - Climate Change Summer Teacher Institute
Are you a teacher working in the Boston area?
The Stone Living Lab and National Parks of Boston are thrilled to announce the first Stone Living Lab Summer Teacher Institute! This free, five-day course from July 25-29 will bring Boston area teachers together to explore Boston Harbor through the lens of climate change, place-based learning, and citizen science.
Together, we will learn from local experts about climate resilience work happening in and around Boston; discover opportunities to bring students to the coast; and learn how citizen science can bring authentic scientific experiences to the classroom. At the end of the course, participants will develop a capstone project, lesson, or curriculum that can be used by schools across Boston Harbor. Participants will also receive three graduate school credits from Framingham State University upon completion of the course.
This year we will welcome five to eight Boston area teachers to join scientists, architects, Park rangers, and community members for Climate Change in the City: Activating Boston’s Harbor Campus as a Living Classroom. We especially encourage teams of two teachers or more from the same school to apply to the Institute. View the application to find out how to apply as a teacher team.

- Adolescent Literacy Learning Cohort
In a Learning Cohort, you can join with a group of BPS colleagues to learn together as a team. You will address a common challenge, observe effective practices through a video observation, develop ideas to bring back to your own setting, and get support as you try out new ideas. This ALC course will be facilitated by Cristina Hernández-Persia and Frank Swoboda from English High School. Together, we will address the question, “How can we support the needs of all students to engage in meaningful, rigorous literacy work?” First session starts on 5/5.

Place-Based Boston is an innovative collaborative of historic, natural and cultural sites in Boston, committed to working with and supporting Boston Public and Charter School students and teachers. This summer, we will be hosting the sixth annual teacher institute this summer – back in person! Our sites have been hard at work re-imagining and adapting place-based resources to support classroom teachers, and we are excited to work with you.
Goal:
Place-based teaching and learning is an approach designed to engage learners in the stories and resources of a place to activate interdisciplinary learning. Boston’s richness of place-based resources expands across the city and links neighborhoods and schoolyards to sites of international significance. In this course, teachers will work with museum, historic site and national park educators to explore the potential of place.

- Thinking Through Art Professional Development Program
Build a classroom culture of inquiry and wonder with the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum next year. Thinking Through Art at the Gardner Museum trains you to facilitate accessible, welcoming opportunities to develop students’ critical thinking and social emotional learning. Earn graduate credits or PDPs and make progress towards your school goals while integrating culturally sustaining artworks that align with BPS adopted curricula. Each work of art gives windows into new worlds, and invites students to make connections to their own lived experience.
