  • Online TESOL / TEFL Certification
    Teach English Abroad – Are you interested in working as an English language teacher around the world? UNI-Prep’s online TESOL & TEFL Certificate program qualifies an individual to work as an English and ESL/EFL teacher internationally. The program is completely online and is 120-hours in length. Since the course is online, it allows you the option to study from anywhere in the world as long as you have a computer with an internet connection. In addition, there is no set schedule that you must follow, so you can study at your own schedule. Once you have registered in the course, you will be given a login and password allowing you accesss to the course 24/7 from any computer. Most students take 2-4 weeks to complete the full TESOL Certification program, but you can take more or less time than this depending on how often and quickly you will study. Once you have finished the course, you will choose whether to be issued a TESOL or TEFL certificate since our course meets the requirements of both qualifications.

This year we are able to offer BTU members up to 30 full scholarships.   • Mentoring for Professional Licensure (MPL)
    To be eligible for a professional teaching license, the Massachusetts Department of Education requires an additional 50 hours of mentoring beyond the first-year induction program.  In this course, you will receive that required mentoring from veteran BPS Educators as you reflect on and grow your teaching practice. Register for one of the three posted sections (Grades K0-3, Grades 4-8, or Grades 9-12) The first Mentoring for Professional Licensure session will be held virtually on October 20th (4:30-6:30).  Contact Ailis Kiernan at akiernan@bostonpublicschools.org if you need further assistance.

  • Mystery Science
    Please join the BPS Science Department and Mystery Science Team for a quick virtual overview of mysteryscience.com. Learn how to best navigate this K-5th grade supplemental science resource during the overview. The 30-minute overview will cover Mini-Lessons, Core lessons, Phenomena driven units, and hands-on step-by-step activities. Do not hesitate to come with questions. After school sessions are scheduled 9/27 3:30pm, 9/29 4pm, 10/5 3:30pm, 10/7 3pm. Look for it on Teach Point. Pick one at a time that works for you. A Zoom link will be provided after registration.
  • Legends of Learning
    Join the Math and Science Departments and Legends of Learning team for a comprehensive overview of the game-based platform: learn how to get students set up, create assignments and manage assignments, view student data, and more!  The session also highlights best practices of using Legends and provides guidance surrounding how to best integrate Legends with existing resources. Four separate 75-minute virtual sessions have been scheduled on  9/28 4pm, 9/30 3:30pm, 10/4 3pm, 10/6 3:30pm.  Look for it on Teach Point.   • Online PD Series: Supporting Immigrants in Schools

    BPS/OEL will be hosting a series of 10 standalone professional development sessions around supporting immigrants in schools based on the modules developed by the City University of New York – Initiative on Immigration and Education (CUNY-IIE).
    The first session will be held on Thursday, September 16, from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. All BPS educators are welcome to join. Please share widely!

  • The Aspire Institute
    The Aspire Institute at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development invites you to take part in our teacher support mentor program. As part of the program, new teachers will be matched with mentors to help increase classroom efficacy and retention. These mentor/teacher relationships are non-evaluative, and their targeted collabora-tion offers a great opportunity to improve on critical areas of practice. They provide an opportunity for regular reflection coupled with timely feedback, enabling teachers to better meet student needs. Teachers who join our mentoring program join a community of professional learners, opening up opportunities to network across specialization and district barriers, and to attend other professional development events offered by the Aspire Institute.   • The Map Center presents: Small Bites
    Small Bites: An after-school series of gatherings for educators interested in teaching about Boston through a geospatial and social justice lens (First session Sept 23)
    For the 2021-22 school year the Map Center is offering a series of FREE “small bites” professional development sessions. These 6 sessions will run after school and will be a mix of in-person and Zoom sessions designed to send you off with great map-based lessons and resources to immediately implement in your classroom.   • Living with Technology: Understanding Our Digital Well-Being
    October is Cybersecurity Month and BPS is getting geared up for it! BPSTech will be offering resources and content throughout the month, as well as launching our Digital Citizenship course, “Living with Technology: Understanding Our Digital Well-Being,” that covers not just cybersecurity but also topics such as screen time and cyberbullying. 1 ALC will be awarded for the completion of the course. This hybrid course begins on Oct. 7th – sign up via Teachpoint!
  • Smooth Sailing
    We wanted to let you know about a fully remote autism-focused Professional Development (PD) program opportunity! The Smooth Sailing PD program is an online program that helps general education teachers learn more about autism, build relationships with their autistic students, and collaborate with their caregivers. The program is currently enrolling for 2021-2022 Fall and Spring cohorts. Teachers who are eligible to participate in this program are: 1) General education teachers, 2) teaching in grades K-2nd, and 3) have a student diagnosed with autism or is suspected of having a diagnosis of autism in their classroom during the 2021-2022 academic year. Approved by MA DESE and funded by the research arm of the federal department of education (the Institute of Education Sciences), Smooth Sailing is a free, virtual, 4-week individualized PD that provides self-paced online learning and coaching. Overall, it involves 12 hours of teacher time and awards 10 Professional Development Points (PDPs) to MA teachers.  Teachers who complete the program will also receive $300 for their participation.

  • Passion to Teach
    Collaborate with MA teachers to bring your teaching passion projects to life! The Teacher Collaborative is seeking Massachusetts PreK-12 teachers who are trying out amazing projects and practices in their classrooms. We will support teachers in strengthening their craft further and infusing one of the following strands into their practice: (1) CRT, (2) Technology Integration, or (3) College/Career/Community Readiness.In this Co-Lab, each participant will:

    • Build skills and engage in deep learning, supported by peers, in the selected strand
    • Strengthen proficiency with student-centered practices in a collaborative setting
    • Develop and share strong passion projects that showcase your skills and new learning

    Teachers will be compensated $500 and benefit from working with a cohort of teachers from across the state of MA! Applications are due on 10/04 at 9:00 a.m.Check out the informational one-pager to learn more and apply here!
