Dear [% member:first_name default=”BTU Member” %],
As we turn the page on another school year, we look back at the powerful display of unity and organizing that resulted in a contract that provides more resources for our students and educators. Click on the above image to view some of this year’s highlights, which culminated in last week’s overwhelming ratification of the tentative agreement. Read coverage in the Boston Herald.
Thank you to everyone who spent their time and energy advocating for the schools our students deserve!
However, as shared at our ratification meeting, our advocacy doesn’t stop here! We did not win everything we know our #StudentsDeserve, and we will continue to call for inclusion done right. Please watch and share the animation below to spread the word about what we mean when we say #InclusionDoneRight.
We will also continue to advocate over the summer for state legislation to #FundOurFuture. Last week, we joined parents and civil rights groups across the state in a joint funding lawsuit, and yesterday, MassBudget shared an analysis of how the Promise Act would bring needed funding to our students.
Though we will be parting ways for the summer months, we invite everyone to join us at this summer’s BTU Summer Organizing Institute, where participants will be taught how to organize their schools and communities to fight for public education. We’re also looking for ten Summer Organizing Leaders who will increase engagement and participation in our union!
Through the summer, we will also continue to pressure the board and CEO of City on a Hill Charter Schools! Please sign the petition if you haven’t done so yet. Our full attention will be devoted to ensuring that educators and staff at City on a Hill Circuit Street, Dudley Square, and New Bedford are treated fairly, and in a way that promotes a stable learning environment for students.
While this bulletin is the last of our weekly bulletins for this school year, we will send occassional updates over the summer, as clearly, our work continues. In the meantime, we wish everyone a well-deserved and restful break after the last day of school tomorrow. Congratulations also to all our newly retired educators – we thank you for your commitment to our students and our union!
